EPG, or esterified propoxylated glycerol, is a safe alternative fat made from vegetable oil. To make EPG, we start with GMO-free plant-sourced oil and split it into its components: glycerin and fatty acid. We then insert a food-grade link and reconnect the glycerin and fatty acid. The result is an ingredient that resists digestion and the release of calories.
A chocolate bar made with EPG, for instance, presents a taste and texture that is identical to a chocolate bar made with cocoa butter. But the calorie and fat count is significantly lower with the EPG chocolate bar thanks to our proprietary technology, which reduces calories from fat by 92% for each unit of fat replaced. No. Because EPG has a melting point of 102º F, it remains solid at body temperature and does not present any gastrointestinal or other side effects on the body.
Yes. EPG Has been rigorously tested in more than 60 studies and is safe to consume in quantities of up to 150 grams/day. It is manufactured in top-quality facilities in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for food and is environmentally safe, as it decomposes like other fats and oils.
EPG is gluten-free, allergen-free, trans-fats-free, vegan and kosher, GMO Free.
Like other neutral vegetable-based fats (i.e. vegetable oil), EPG takes on the flavor of whatever it’s made with. Because of this, EPG offers a flavor and texture that is nearly identical to traditional fats.
After over two decades of research, products made with EPG hit the market in 2017.
